In our book Be Fruitful and Multiply, we write, “There is a dynamic at work within us that is beyond us.” The Apostle Paul states much the same thing at the end of his prayer in Ephesians 3: “Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all we ask or think, according to the power at work in us…”
This power, this dynamic is the Holy Spirit who works within us to accomplish that which is beyond us within ourselves. We may need to do less of ourselves so that we can accomplish more in him. The power here isn’t at work apart from us, but with us in an amazing partnership! This partnership is taking us beyond ourselves into the possibilities of God and his kingdom realm.
So, in what ways might this work?
First, by praying in and with the Holy Spirit. Paul encourages us to be ‘praying at all times in the Spirit’ (Ephesians 6:18) and Romans 8:26 explains that ‘the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.’ Yet this intercession is in and through us as we cooperate with God’s Spirit as our lead partner.
Second, as we move with the anointing of the Spirit in power. Jesus was anointed with the Holy Spirit and with power (Acts 10:38) and Luke tells us that he returned from the wilderness in the power of the Spirit (Luke 4:14). As we realise the dynamic that is at work in us and learn to release his anointing to others, we will see his work that is beyond us in healing, miracles, and the transforming of lives.
At our Base Camp we have been developing intercessory prayer where we seek to listen to and be led by the Holy Spirit. We are also endeavouring to equip God’s people to minister in the power of the Spirit as they testify concerning the good news of Jesus and his kingdom.
We will be running a major three-part course on healing in the power of the Spirit on Tuesdays 27th August, and 3rd and 10th September, based on Acts 10:38:
God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.
